Hotel Living Wraps Up in Maryland

The past three weekends have been busy for the ladies in royal and gold.  Filled with hotel breakfasts, team dinners and a boatload of quality softball, the Heat Gold finished up the "travel" portion of the summer schedule this past weekend.  With two 18U Showcases under their belt in Rhode Island and Connecticut against some of the best 18U teams in the northeast, the Heat traveled to Maryland for the 2011 16U Summer Sizzler, returning to our true age bracket for the final time this year.  Despite a 2-3 record and losing in the quarterfinals to the #1 seed, the Abington Wildcats from Scranton, PA, the ladies played well and enjoyed their time together.  Highlights this past weekend included a 17 hit barrage against a Maryland Flames pitcher who had no-hit them the day before, Sammy's homerun on Sunday, SamBam's "ALMOST" homerun two batters later and Kate Dawson's defensive prowess behind the plate in that oppressive weather.  Individual game MVP awards were given to Angela (3 rbi's - game 1), Lauren (pitching performance - game 2), Kelsey (2-2, 2 rbi's - game 3), Sammy J (homerun, full out diving effort in left field - game 4) and Jess (3 defensive web gems at first, triple - game 5).
